Originally built in 1916 by Wally Piper, it was turned into a petrol station around 1924. Wally would walk a few kilometers to the shop every morning and home at night to build the house. He would then walk down the the river to collect rocks, sand and water in buckets to build the house. He eventually had a wheel barrow imported from England to help with the process. Len was given that original wheel barrow that Ron Bonner still had in his house a couple of years ago.
The place has been known as OG Speed Shop for many years, Len and Jan have now had it for about 31 yrs. Not a bad place to spend your youth and grow up in. I believe it may be one of the oldest or not the oldest petrol station in the world that is still operating in it’s original structure.
